Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any content warnings for Unbound?

Yes, there are a few – please be aware that it is an adult fantasy novel with mature themes, including brief descriptions of violence, loss of a parent, emotional abuse, threatened sexual abuse, and discussions of depression and grief.

Is this book the start of a series?

Unbound is a standalone fantasy novel that does not end on a cliffhanger; however, there are two additional follow-up novels set in the same fantasy world involving new characters. Stay tuned for more information about release dates!

What are some books you would recommend to learn more about Irish mythology?

Irish mythology is such a rich, gorgeous and complex era, spanning thousands of years and featuring many different divine families and races. There are many resources to help both the novice and the experienced mythology enthusiast learn more about these stories, gods, and heroic figures, and here are a few of my favorites:

Lady Gregory's Complete Irish Mythology

Tales from Old Ireland, by Malachy Doyle

The Stories We Carry In Our Bones, by Juilene Osborne-McKnight

Celtic Mythology, by Philip Freeman

Feisty & Fiery & Fierce, by Mairi Kidd

Wild Magic, by Danu Forest

I would also recommend reading The Táin, an epic poem often known as 'the Irish Iliad,' as it is details many of the most significant and well-known stories and figures from Irish mythology. Unbound itself is a retelling of the Irish myth of Midir and Étaín, a poem known as Tochmarc Étaín (The Wooing of Étaín).

I enjoyed Unbound, and would like to read other fantasy books with similar themes. What would you suggest?

So many! Unbound was influenced by several books and authors whom I cannot recommend enough: Uprooted by Naomi Novik; The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden; The Star-Touched Queen, by Roshani Chokshi; The Elements of Cadence duology by Rebecca Ross; The Stardust Thief, by Chelsea Abdullah; and the Wilderwood duology by Hannah Whitten, to name a few. I also highly, highly recommend Shauna Lawless, an Irish fantasy author who writes gorgeous epic historical mythological fantasies set in ancient Ireland!
